Thank you for taking the time to read our community agreements, we are building this space together, so your presence and attention is appreciated. If you have any thoughts/adjustments/feedback on these agreements please contact us so we can be in conversation as this is a living document.
We are deeply committed to creating a space that is rooted in solidarity, safety, and belonging.
This looks different for everyone, and we are here to co-learn, grow, and expand, being in the practice of accountability. These events are imagined and organized to practice community building and collective care. Tending to and building relationships is at the center of all we do. Trust work is slow work, but similar to fermentation with a healthy container a culture of care can grow and thrive.
The patriarchal colonial project has engrained dimensions of oppression into myriad aspects of daily life, relational dynamics, and how we feel/move in our bodies. These show up both consciously and unconsciously, but we are committed (esp white bodied folks) to unlearning how a culture of dominance shapes us.
As a community we will not let any type of racism, sexism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, etc slide. Harms of this sort will be held accountable, and moved through with integrity, presence, and care. Here are two ways we can provide support if you experience or encounter a situation where you feel unsafe:
If you experience or witness harm, you can talk to one of our “community stewards.” These individuals will be available to connect with at any time during the event and will work with you to decide how to proceed.
If you experience or witness harm, we invite you to name and address it if you feel comfortable.
We invite everyone who enters the space to practice awareness of how our words and behaviors can have a harmful impact despite our best intentions. We commit to continuing to learn and experiment with holding ourselves and each other accountable. The work of building with strangers is messy, but necessary.
Minneapolis’ anti-ICE, neighborhood solidarity is a big inspiration to us. The below quote highlighting that energy and what we want to cultivate in this space:
“It feels like we’re all on a giant team together as a city. It’s incredible. It’s like building a muscle of solidarity across race, across class. It’s something the Left talks about a lot, but I’ve never experience it like this. And it’s truly ordinary people - it’s not majority organizers or activists. It’s people who’ve never organized a day in their lives but know something wrong is happening and want to do something.”
